Event Location:

We are excited to hold the WSWRA conference in a historic location. Evanston’s Historic Roundhouse & Railyards was constructed in 1912-1914 by Union Pacific Railroad and features one of the last intact roundhouses on the UPRR line. In 2009, the city was able to refurbish the first of four sections of the Round-house as a public facility.

Keynote Speaker – David Biderman:

We are excited to announce our 2023 Keynote Speaker, David Biderman.  David Biderman is a leader and advocate for many waste and recycling issues.  David has recently completed a successful tenure for the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) as their Executive Director and CEO.  At SWANA David promoted many safety and advocacy programs, and increased annual membership from about 8,200 members to about 11,000.   Achievements include pushing the progress of Safety in the solid waste industry. With his help, the industry has moved from the fifth most dangerous occupation to seventh (last year) according to the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.  With WSWRA’s focus on Safety in this year’s conference, we are excited to learn about ways to keep your programs safe!

David Biderman is the President of Biderman Consulting, LLC, a consulting firm that assists companies and local governments on a variety of solid waste-related issues. David is a frequent speaker at solid waste conferences in the U.S. and overseas. From April 2015 to March 2023, David was the Executive Director and CEO of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), the largest solid waste association in the United States.

While at SWANA, he led the association’s 35% growth, increased its visibility on federal issues, created an industry-leading safety program, and successfully implemented its Strategic Plan. Prior to joining SWANA, David was the General Counsel, VP of Government Affairs, and Safety Director at the National Waste & Recycling Association, where he worked from 1997 to 2015. David was an environmental attorney at Steptoe & Johnson, a leading Washington DC-based law firm, from 1988 to 1997.
David is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
